Can Geodesign change your world? Here’s a chance to find out.

The College of Arts & Architecture at Penn State is excited to announce the offering of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). “Geodesign: Change Your World” is now open for registration and will run for five-weeks starting in August 2014.

MOOCs emerged from the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement and are free courses that are offered entirely online. These are often low-stakes courses that serve to introduce thousands of people to a concept or technique.

Each MOOC is the result of a detailed plan designed to serve the goals of instruction. In our case, our motives are straightforward: we want to showcase what Geodesign is and what it can do to as many people as possible. A key goal of our MOOC is to inspire folks about Geodesign’s possibilities.

Penn State is working to become the foremost name in Geodesign education. We want to help the world understand that people working together can have a valuable role in addressing how decisions are made about the environment, infrastructure, and planning processes. We want to empower people to realize they have the ability to make changes in their neighborhood, community, town, city, region… in their place.

Please join us on this adventure – the exchange of ideas with participants from all over the world is one the really cool things about a MOOC. We’re excited to be partnering with Coursera to be the first University to offer this kind of MOOC. We hope to expose a lot of folks to the exciting possibilities inherent in Geodesign.
